Block textures: REFI Textures
The block textures in our build pictures, material icons, 3D guide and Cinematic Studio are REFI Textures by MysticTempest, licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0. REFI is drawn from scratch; X-Builds uses no Mojang textures. Where REFI has no texture for a block, our own generated tiles fill the gap. Pictures and clips made before we switched to REFI show only our own generated textures (see below).

What we changed
We never edit the REFI files themselves. When we build our REFI texture atlas (one image that holds every block texture), we make these changes and no others:
frame0: Animation strips (frames stacked vertically) are cut to their first frame; the atlas holds still tiles.mirror: Door halves are flipped horizontally. Their Mineclonia art is the mirror image of the orientation our door model expects (craft_to_clonia_textures' CloniaFlipsHorizontal table); the flip undoes that. The trapped double chest's front tile is also used flipped, for the half whose latch sits on the other edge.colour: The grass block's top and side-overlay tiles are brightened ×1.3 (all three channels, so they stay greyscale for tinting): REFI's grass art is a low-contrast mid-grey, and with our tint the catalog ground read near-black. Picked by eye from our own renders.atlas: Packed into the X-Builds block atlas: 16 px tiles in 32 px cells with 8 px edge-extruded gutters, colour bled into fully transparent texels, and three downsampled mip levels (premultiplied 2×2 averages; tiles with any fully transparent texel keep their alpha coverage at the 0.5 threshold).tints: Our tint colours for grass, leaves, water and redstone (build-engine textures/tints.ts) are sampled from REFI's own palettes: grass index 14 (its brightest entry, picked by eye); leaves index 0 (foliage), 2 (spruce) and 9 (birch); redstone power index 15; water is the mean of default_water.png. They are applied as vertex colour to REFI's greyscale tiles, never baked into pixels.
Our pictures and how to reuse them
Build pictures (main, card and step images), material icons, and pictures and clips exported from the Cinematic Studio that show REFI textures are licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0. So is our REFI texture atlas as a whole, our own generated tiles in it included. You may copy, share and adapt them for any purpose, including commercial use, as long as you:
- credit them as “X-Builds; textures REFI by MysticTempest” (a link to this page is welcome);
- link to the licence, https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/;
- say if you changed the picture;
- share what you make from it under CC BY-SA 4.0 too.
The X-Builds watermark in the corner and the credit stored in each picture's metadata say the same thing. You may crop or remove the watermark as long as you give the credit another way. This licence covers the REFI textures, our REFI texture atlas and the pictures that show them, not the written guides, the build data (block lists, steps, counts) or our code: see the Terms.
Older pictures and clips
Pictures and clips that show only our own generated textures, such as build pictures made before we switched to REFI and clips from older app versions, are not under CC BY-SA 4.0 and are not credited to REFI. They stay ours, and so does our older texture set, which has no REFI in it. You may share those pictures and clips with the watermark left in place. On this website, a build's page says when its pictures show REFI textures.
